Other Information	Surveyed the Buffalo River mouth and founded the town of East London there in 1836; a memorial has been erected on Signal Hill commemorating the event. He opened up trade with Natal; drowned while attempting to rescue the crew of f the Hector, wrecked on the Natal coast.
