Notes |
- per The 1820 Settlers of salem, by A E Makin on page 41:
Leaving his family at Salem, he and his son Henry set out on foot in May 1821, for Cape Town, intending either to seek employment there or work their passages to England. When Wallace(sic) reached George Town, in June, he was arrested for leaving the settlement without permission but was allowed to submit an application to Cape Town to remain at George Town where his services were needed by the local residents who were busy with a large number of building projects. Approval was given for him to stay 4 months. In October he wrote for an extension of his pass but his was not granted and he was promptly arrested and sent back to Albany.
