Notes |
- Between his first wife's death in 1697 and his second marriage in 1699 to Sophia Zank, Jan Lambertz had a daughter, from a relationship with a Lysbeth van Wyk. Nothing further is known of them.
The wedding to Sophia Zank had to be postponed because the minister, the Rev. Petrus Kalden, did not show up at the Grotte Kerk on the appointed Sunday afternoon, 15 March 1699. A ceremony was held by the curate (sieketrooster) but he was not an authorized marriage celebrant and the bride and groom had to spend the night separately.
On Monday the impatient groom went to see Governor van der Stel, who gave special dispensation for the wedding to take place on the Tuesday, the next day, instead of waiting for the following Sunday. The couple were legally married on Tuesday evening, 17 March, but no one could discover what the sleeping arrangements had been on the Monday night.
