Notes |
- Dorothy Rowse write in October 2017:
1. On 21 November 1819 Bradshaw wrote to ask that Henry King be allowed to take a wife with him without having to pay any additional deposit.
2. The embarkation list in Theal includes an unnamed wife for Henry; Nash lists a wife Mary Ann aged 18 years at disembarkation, but Morse-Jones does not. There is no sign of a marriage in the Gloucestershire records.
3. There is no record that Henry was granted land on the location and no sign of the couple in Lower Albany Chronicle etc.
4. The statement signed by Surveyor Charles Bell in 1843 gives a list of 12 settlers and annotates Henry King Senior’s name with an “S” which suggests that there had been a Henry King jnr.
5. A man and woman clearly landed at Algoa Bay and stated that they were Henry King and wife but nothing more is known about them.
