- Arthur was educated at Eton, and was commissioned at Sandhurst and served as a Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion Scots Guards. He was killed in action in the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902), on 23 Nov 1900 in Tiger's Kloof, Kransfontein, Orange Free State, South Africa.
