5th October 1819

My Lord,

I have the honour of addressing your Lordship touching the Cape of Good Hope. I have a party of 10 to 20 persons, chiefly Agriculturalists & Mechanics, selected with some trouble to accompany me to the Colony, but from the delay which has occurred in making the selection I am fearful my application for your Lordships approval will be too late; a report having been circulated that your Office was closed against further applications.

The purport of the present is to request of your Lordship the favor of an answer informing me whether such report be true; if not, I beg to apprise your Lordship that my list shall be forthwith sent in.

I have the honor to be

Your Lordship’s most obed’t humble sev’t

H. R. SNELLGROVE
