Honorable Sir,

                        I take the liberty of addressing you which I hope you will not consider presumtious in me. I wish to solicit a passage to go out to the Cape of Good Hope as a settler, under such restrictions and directions as your Lordship may think proper to grant. Your Lordship’s early reply will oblige

My Lord,

            I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your circular of the 29th ult and agreeable to the information therein contained I have formed a party consisting of twelve persons. And acting as chief thereof I have taken the liberty of addressing your Lordship in the name of the annexed list of persons (the whole of whom have unanimously agreed to proceed to the intended new colony) for the grant of land & privileges appertaining thereto, as specified in your circular of 1819.

            I am now prepaired to pay down the deposit required by Government if approved of by yoyr Lordship and granted. I humbly beg the favour of your Lordship’s early answer.
