The Humble Memorial of James MARSHALL late Gunner Royal Artillery:
Most humbly sheweth
That your memorial’t was discharged on the 1st day of July 1810 on a pension of nine pence per day which is not adequate to provide the necessaries of life having a wife and nine children to provide for and no employment whatever at present but that small compensation that is allowed by the Government.
Now your memorial’t most humbly solicits your Lordship to procure him a conve[y]ance to the cape of Good Hope for himself and his family – requests to know will he be allowed to have his pension in that country or such instructions that he may go by as your memorial’t will impatiently wait for your Lordship’s answer and your memorialist ever prays

My lord
I most humbly beg leave to once more to acquaint your Lordship. Having wrote before for a pashage to the Cape of Good Hope for myself and family as being a pensioner from the Royal Artillery at nine pence per day which is not adequate to support myself and family, having been fairly informed that goverment grants a free pasage to such individuals as may prefer going to that country. Therefore I most humbly sollicit your Lordship to send me such instructions as may be nessury[necessary] for me concerning my pasage and drawing my pension in that country or will I be allowed a compensation for it.
My lord I shall wait [obscured] for your lordship’s answer.
PS Your Lordship was pleased to send an answer to my last memorial which was obtained
out of the Post office by some other person unknown.
