May it please your Lordship
The offer of Government to persons willing to settle at the Cape of Good Hope, being a sawyer, having only a wife, has induced me your Lordship’s humble supplicant to crave permission to embark in the undertaking, having no employ in this my native country, my supplication not arising from a desire to emigrate but by embracing the proffered grant to keep my wife and myself from being burthensome to the Parish, I hope will be considered a justifiable plea from
Your Lordship’s most humble supplicant
