My Lord,

I take the liberty of addressing your Lordship on the subject of emigrating to the Cape of Good Hope. I am a Medical Man and a Member of the College of Surgeons, London. It is my wish to go out as a settler at my own expence and to take out two farm servants. I am given to understand that I shall be entitled to a grant of land there and am therefore induced to apply to your Lordship to know if the report is correct and in that case to request your Lordship to give me directions how I am to procure the same.

I have the honor to be my Lord

Yr Lordship’s most obed’t & very hble sev’t

My Lord,

Having made my election to go with Mr. PHILLIPS from this port to the Cape of Good Hope I take the earliest opportunity of returning to your Lordship the letter which your Lordship caused to be transmitted me for the Governor at the Cape provided I went as a settler. I further beg leave to observe that my application to your Lordship is an antecedent to any engagement with Mr. PHILLIPS.

I have the honor to be my Lord

Yr Lordship’s most obed’t & very hble sev’t
