Hon Sir,

I hope your Honour will pardon my Intrusion on your Goodness but in consequence of being a Painter, Plumber and Glazier and wishing to become a Settler at the Cape of Good Hope and being given to understand you are the gentleman I must apply to to get the instructions from, induces me to address you, so I hope you will do the needful for me as I can have a very good recommendation for Honesty and Abilities. So by complying with my humble request it will be found a lasting obligation in the breast of your humble petitioner

Israel Wm. CRANE

NB I have got a wife and three children
