My Lord,

Understanding that application in [respect] of persons desirous of going to the Cape of Good Hope is to be made at your office, and as there are several families in this populous parish of that description, and a Vestry held yesterday having come to a Resolution to assist them agreeably to the Act lately passed for that purpose, by the desire of the said Vestry I take the liberty to request that instructions may be sent here to state what steps are necessary to be taken to carry the said Resolution into effect. It was particularly enquired at the Vestry what the expence was likely to be of getting out each Family averaging a Man, his Wife and two children as the number, [as] assisted must be limited to the amount of assistance the parish is able to afford. Information on this and all other necessary points it is hoped your Lordship will be pleased to furnish and will be thankfully received my Lord by

Your Lordship’s most obed’ servant

Thos. COOKE

Vicar
