My Lord,

Finding that it is the intention of Government to encourage the Emigration from these Kingdoms to the Cape of Good Hope, and as I am now placed on the half pay of the Army by the late Reduction for the Peace Establishment and as I find no hopes whatever of being called in on full pay and trusting that my former services may be a claim for a grant of land in that Colony, I now apply having served His Majesty fully for upwards of fourteen years and having very little left for my support but my half pay and am your Lordship’s most humble servant

Geo CLIBBORN

Lieut Hf Pay 3rd Gar’n? Batt
