Hon Sir,
We persons viz George BROWN smith & farrier with my wife and Steven BROWN & wife, having great inclination to go to the Cape of Good Hope, have made an aplication at your office & was instructed by your gentleman to write to inquire the particulars that is requisite before such an adventure, in the first place we have been brought up in the country & understand the cultivation of land & must beg Sir that you will not think me too troublesome in asking the few following questions. First what implements of husbandry or household furniture will be allowed to be taken or if they will be provided us 2ndly if our seeds & corn will not be found us the first year 3rdly what we are to subsist on when we arrive untill we have had a harvest & whether there will not be some little hut on each man’s piece of ground for us to dwell in.
Sir, if you will oblige us with an answer to this & tell us what is necessary for us to know you will very much oblige your humble servants
