My Lord,

A respected husbandman 42 years of age of this parish has applied to me as a magistrate for information as to the terms upon which he can be permitted to go out as a settler at the Cape of Good Hope. He is a single man – I hope I am taking too great a liberty [sic] in asking your Lordship to have the goodness to direct the required information. This may be forwarded to me as soon as convenient.

I have the honour to be your Lordship’s very humble servant

H.E. BROOMFIELD
